For years I have been receiving my local HDTV through
a Channel Master rooftop antenna connected to my Dish
921 DVR (formerly connected to Dish 6000). My local
CBS digital channel number is now and has always been
008-01. I live in San Diego and suddenly last week
whenever I select 008-01 I receive channel 4, NBC Los
Angeles. San Diego channel 8 engineering department
says there has been no change and Dish Advanced
Customer Service says it cannot be their equipment.
My antenna rotor is working fine and I have made no
equipment changes. Can anyone explain what happened
and why I suddenly lost this channel after having it
for so long? Thanks in advance.

Hi, I think it is certain that someone changed their psip to comply with
FCC stuff. Unfortunately, I don't think that there is any way to work
the 6000 (I have one too) to use the real channel assignments.

I found that the 6000 was attentive to details, and for several months
one local station disappeared due to a psip change. This while no one
else noticed a problem, and their in-house commercial gear indicated
AOK. One of their engineers acquired a DISH receiver, found the same
problem, and they decided to believe me. They did finally re-fix the
problem.

Ask if either changed their psip data recently.

I have also seen places where people say that doing a fresh complete new
scan of available stations can help this problem.

I bet if you checked out
www.avsforum.com

And searched on your receiver model and PSIP... You would find lots of
information.

I originally posted the question about whether or not the direct TV
receivers could still receive OTA broadcasting because a customer mine's
just went out. I knew the older ones worked but not if the new receivers
still did. As someone pointed out earlier, a hard reset of the receiver
cured the problem and so now I can confirm that even the latest receivers
from Direct TV still do work for OTA even after they cancel their
subscription to Direct TV.

Thanks to all that replied to this topic.

I tried a new digital scan but no improvement. I will
try the scan at several new antenna positions. Maybe
if I point the antenna at Los Angeles I"ll pick up San
Diego. Strange waves in the air.

I will check the AVS forum as suggested. Thanks,Phil.

Joe,

Try this:

Manually remove all of the digital OTA channels off of
the receiver.

Take the antenna cables off of the back of the
receiver. Next do a rescan. You will not get any
channels because you have no input. Now, unplug the
receiver for 5 minutes. Attach the antenna cables
again. Plug in the receiver. Do a rescan and see
what that gets you.

This is the best advice I've heard yet. I didn't think of it until Bob
mentioned it, but this is exactly what I've done when I had weird psip
issues with an older dtc-100. the scanning with nothing plugged in part
- that is key.

Dish just did a new software update on 10000 921's yesterday but that would
not explain why you lost the station last week. The new firmware is L215.
The old firmware is L213. If no problems crop up the rest of the 921's will
get the new firmware in the next week are so.

----- HDTV Magazine Tips List -----

Thank you Bobby and Jason for the advice and the
explanation and thanks to the rest of the tips members
who offered help.

I've been a member of the tips list for about three
years and although I don't participate on a regular
basis I read all the posts. I very much enjoy this
forum because I love great sound and great video. I
anxiously await high definition DVD. This HD world
keeps getting better and better. Keep up the good
work, what's going on here is important.

You're welcome Joe. I wasn't totally positive this
fix would work with the 921, but it has with the 6000
and 811. I got the idea from DBSTalk.com a while back
when Jason Nipp brought up it up for the 811 with
similar symptoms.

----- HDTV Magazine Tips List -----

Just about any STB may be healed with this procedure and during the big
PSIP change months ago was a common discussion at our local HDTV group.
