Does anyone have any experience with the Panasonic TH-50PHD7UY? I
currently own a Mits 55511 but am moving into a new home with speakers in
the wall in the family room and am considering hanging a plasma on the wall
because I think I can get a good deal (so then I'll probably add a theater
room in the basement down the road; perhaps the Mits can go there if not
upgraded by then). Any comments on how this model stacks up vs. other
consumer models and/or vs. the Mits? (in picture only -- I know it doesn't
have a tuner and that I probably need to add on more digital connections
via the card slot) Thanks for any input.

I calibrated one of these a couple of months ago and frankly it was
the best looking plasma I've ever seen and the first one I would
actually consider recommending.

I saw little or no image retention, it held a steady white level, one
of the preset color temperatures was very accurate, etc. Other than
the green primary being a bit off (typical of most plasma/DLP sets
these days) I found very little to complain about. I only think we
looked at digital inputs so I can't comment on its analog processing,
but feed it a quality digital signal and you should be very happy.

I'm also considering buying this set. Is it wise to get the extended

Is it wise to breath? Hell yes get the extended warranty unless you
have an extra couple of thousand laying around with nothing better to do
with it than to use it to replace the plasma you just bought that was
damaged from electrical spikes or god knows what else because you didn't
purchase the extended warranty? Everyone I've ever purchased has paid
off in spades either in a free repair, new product or simple peace of
mind!!! Just my opinion.

I did not take the extended warranty on my Toshiba 16 x9 34 inch HD ready TV
purchased in March of 2001. Had I bought the warranty $395, it would have
run out this March. The set didn't need any work, of any variety, so it
would have been a waste of money. It's pretty much a gamble my experience
has been positive not taking the extended warranty. Others may have
differing experiences.

I have never purchased an extended warranty but as I have stated in the past
I have purchased discounted Monster Power equipment. I had one of their
cheaper surge suppressor models. When I was hit with a spike they paid out
thousands to replace my computer and A/V receiver and Mitsubishi TV. Which
is why I became sold on the company. I now have their high end power supply
and voltage regulator units.(AVS 2000) and (HTPS7000)

APC also carries a $25k protection plan with most of their equipment and,
in my experience, is generally cheaper, since it is geared toward the
general PC market rather than high-end home theater. Granted, it isn't as
"cool" looking in the rack, but, in general, you'll only pay hundreds
instead of thousands.
