Richard,
I have a button to turn the function on or off or demo mode with my
61" Samsung DLP. I will admit that I can't see much or any
difference at all. Am I not doing anything by turning it on or off?
The demo function doesn't do anything as well.
What am i missing here?
Thanks,
Joe

It's been reported that feature defaults to "on" as soon as you exit the
menu. No way to turn it off permanently.

I'm getting a Sammy 61" delivered tomorrow, so I would most definitely
like to find a work around.

You likely have the model where this is a placebo as well as the
sharpness...

Not familiar with that version. Hopefully one of the other calibrators
can comment.

This placebo thing works the other way to where the DNIe is always on
even though it appears you can turn it off and on...

Look for edge enhancement artifacts using grid and pin patterns. Got a
calibration DVD like DVE or Avia?

At least in certain modes.

I have an HL-P5063 also, and DNIe definitely does something. The
Demo mode is a joke. The on half does not equate to on, the off half
does not equate to off.

Best to just leave it off and rest assured you picture is not being
manipulated by their overzealous "processing".

On the new HL-R models it is always on and can only be turned off
temporarily using the service mode. There is a discussion on the AVS
Forum as to how to do this, but it is probably too annoying for every
day use. You must disable DNIe manually (or with a remote macro)
every time you turn on the set or switch inputs.

Samsung made awesome TV's for one or two years (the HLN and moreso
the HLP models) but have definitely taken a turn to the dark side
with the HL-Rs.
