STB's

The analog conversion deadline is nearing, but if I were to want
to purchase a converter now, from what company would I purchase it?

Are any actually on the market, and how much do they cost?

Are any present manufacturers ramping up production to meet anticipated
demand?

Please read the 2006 report.

Is free, and it has a section dedicated to it.

Rodolfo, Thanks: I surmise that none is available at this time.

What I found particularly interesting is the requirement for cable co's
to down-convert HD to SD at the users box, not at the head end.

As pointed out, the cable-co's will have to convert millions of STB's,
apparently by the same dead-line.

Howard,

I am not sure why you conclude that there are no tuners around. The reports
2005 and 6 show quite a few.

The cable conversion issues of "at home or at the head" are also addressed
on the report on the sections of cable and DTV implementation, in addition
to the digital to analog "at home and at the head" conversion, with some
statistics.

I also cover the issues of unidirectional CableCARD and the investment made
by the public under the mandate of the FCC. All my projections are
happening, and are gradually becoming worst as time passes, and as we all
wait for the final OCAP bi-directional solution.

Even Ken Pohlmann from Sound and Vision has now realized that my projections
over the past 3 years since CableCARD started, are now a sad reality, he
made a similar calculation that shows the large consumer investment on a
technology that was obsolete the day it arrived.

He certainly defended his case well with some readers that cannot see the
far reached effects other than the card worked well on their TVs, and do not
realize how much they have paid for tuners into their new TVs because there
are no monitors around to compare prices with, an issue I have been
preaching since 2003.

And old Spanish saying says it all:

"Ojos que no ven corazon que no siente"

Best Regards,

Rodolfo La Maestra
