My main gripe was the sound. The rear channels had too much primary information in them. The horns were mixed too far toward the rear. Good show though.

I caught "The Eagles Farewell Tour 1" last night on NBC. Yes they did
simulcast it in HD and Dolby Digital 5.1. The picture looked a bit soft
at certain points in the program. The sound was surprisingly good. The
surround effect actually worked on a music program. All in all a good
experience save for one thing. The last song was Desperado. Prior to
this song they showed a commercial and of course during the commercials
the side bars would come on and the audio would go from 5.1 to Pro
Logic. Well, when the commercial ended and the program came back on for
the finale, the sidebars never went away and the audio went from Pro
Logic to Dolby Digital 2.0. I'm wondering if this was a function of the
cable company, the local feed or the national feed? In any event it was
a lousy way to end what was otherwise a stellar broadcast.

I've had that same experience many times and it is usually the local's fault and I hate it and have
mentioned it to the local folks and it doesn't change.

It was almost certainly a problem with your local NBC affiliate (it
didn't happen here in Dallas). Unfortunately, "flipping the switch"
is still done manually in many cases and it is not uncommon for
people to forget. Last week one of the NBA playoff games on ABC
started off SD here in Dallas until an engineer was alerted by a
posting on one of the forums and called the station to get their
attention. It is amazing to me how common a problem it still is,
even for stations that have been doing HD for 4 years.
