----- HDTV Magazine Tips List -----
It's all about black levels. CRT is the best way to display blacks, so
in a darkened room, I would put my 520 against just about any display on
the market. The 54" I have uses 7" guns instead of the 9" found in the
larger model, which would improve it further. However, if you look at my
set next to a 40" LCD in a bright room, the LCD wins every time.
So I would say that the trade off is flexibility for pure quality. My
set also cannot accept a 720p input and it's extremely difficult to get
it to sync to a computer input. It also has no DVI/HDCP/HDMI inputs.
If my set broke tomorrow and it was not covered under warranty, I would
not hesitate to buy another for < $1000, assuming it was in the same
condition as mine. Yes, it's a dinosaur; but it's the tyrannosaurus rex
of HDTVs.

Are these older Pioneer sets really that much better than the new Plasma
and
LCd's out in the market place. Picture wise?
