Hey Rodolfo,

Do you believe what I was told by a rep from Mitsubishi that they will come
to your house and change a chip so that their monitors (i.e WD-65831) would
be 1.3 capable?

Or was he blowing smoke to get a sale?

Thanks,

Larry

Jeff,

There were a few tips. One from you yesterday; that I responded to you the
same day directly with PM.

Then Bob, me, and Larry, a few exchanges.

To make sure your ISP isn't playing with your account check the tips posts
automatically recorded on the web forum dedicated to that, I use that at
times as a monitoring tool, great idea Shane.

Best Regards,

Rodolfo La Maestra

Larry,

On Monday I am meeting with HDMI and Silicon Image at Dolby in NY for a demo
of 1.3.

I will ask them if they know anything about such claim, or any other
arrangement from other manufacturers.

If this would be true, this would mean that all the rest of their circuitry
on the signal path (video and audio) after the chip has been already suited
with the technical capabilities required by 1.3.

Perhaps is true, but is hard to believe they would have invested on
after-chip circuitry and software that most people would not even use due to
lack of knowledge and/or lack on the actual need, while the input chip of
such model is a bottleneck to all those capabilities.

Normally, a manufacturer would issue such new features by releasing a newer
model, rather than on a service call within warranty.

The only case of a TV manufacturer offering s similar feature was Toshiba
back in 2003 when component analog was in the heat of being replaced by DVI,
so they offered a service call to perform the upgrade for about $300 I
believe, my old memory my betray me though, by I know I wrote about it on
either the 2003 or 2004 report.

That was absolutely the only TV manufacturer at that time that offered such
future proof connectivity feature, but I never followed thru to check if
they have actually did that to their customers, perhaps the service people
on this list (like Richard could confirm if Toshiba ever put their $ where
their mouth was regarding this feature), or Alan or Joseph from the point of
view of dealers.

We are not talking about signal processors, pre/pros, etc that we know they
have an upgrade path when their architecture allows for card replacements at
an attractive price (like DVDO), we are talking TVs. Theta Casablanca
pre/pros offer such upgrade path but you have to get a second mortgage, but
a $3000 card replacement is nothing for a $17000 pre/pro isn't? They even
upgrade the operating system and serve you tea while you wait the 2 months.

Best Regards,

Rodolfo La Maestra

What would be helpful to me is a chart which shows the HDMI
levels and the features of each, compared to the other levels. Does
anyone know where such a chart can be viewed on the internet?

Robert,

I thought about that need as well, reason by which I wrote a 10 part article
series for this Magazine recently:

http://www.hdtvmagazine.com/articles/ar ... .php?id=16

HDMI has asked me for permission to use those articles on their web site as
well:

Best Regards,

Larry,

I met with Mitsubishi in NYC's HDMI 1.3 presentation yesterday, the claim of
the rep below is not true (as I expected), he asked for the name of this
rep, please email me privately if you have any information.

Best Regards,

Rodolfo La Maestra
