As an FYI, The Helios HVD2085 is actually the NeuNeo with a new
name. My main interest is in getting 480i output over HDMI for use
with my external scaler (the best way to extract native source
material digitally from an SD DVD) and I'm going to wait for OPPO to
introduce their new model 970, supposedly in late April 06. It is
actually supposed to be priced lower than their 971 which is already
under $200. The 970 has 480i out at HDMI but lacks internal scaling
- which is fine for my needs.

Hi Guys,

The Neuneo also does that. I have one here, butt I don't recommend it as it
clips white pretty badly and it can't be fixed as there are no picture
controls in the menu.

Here is a DVD player, the Helios HVD2085, which claims to upconvert to 720p,

1080i and 1080p via component. Price is $199 and the site is located at:

Thanks Hugh,

I am crossing emails with them regarding the copy protection issue of CSS and HDCP on units licensed for the US market, if they care about any license at all.

I just ordered one to experiment with it, before the under the radar scheme is over. I am more interested in testing the Chinese Hi-def DVD ability for Kung Fu movies for my wife (she is from China of course).

I have the FVD disc from Taiwan (not the other 3 chinese formats), the company I reviewed on the report, but did not have the chance to test it yet, although the company offered me the player after CES, I should have accepted that courtesy.

I am in Argentina now, I am not able to respond emails as quickly as home because I am out of the hotel most of the day (visiting my 91 years old Mom), but I will do my best to respond.

Best Regards,

Rodolfo,

Hope you have a wonderful trip. I had thought that the models that would
upconvert over component had all been taken off the market and was surprised
to see this one. Of course the huge question is how does the picture look.
Sounds too cheap to me to be of any real use. I'll save my money and wait
for the real thing.

Regards,
Hugh
