INHD2 just disappeared one day from my cable system. I contacted Brighthouse today and was told INHD2 stopped broadcasting. Anyone know if this is true?

That is true (at least for my Comcast). I don't even get the weekly schedules
for INHD2 from the INHD emails.

Comcast replaced INHD2 with National Geographic HD a few weeks ago.

It was combined into INHD1 about a month ago.

INHD2 does not exist any longer. I'm not exactly sure when they pulled the
plug on it, but if you check their website, there is no mention of it at
all.

There was a series of announcements on INHD2 in the days before the
change that the two channels were being combined. The actual
combination took place on January 1. Unfortunately, most of the stuff
I really enjoyed was on INHD2, and didn't seem to make the transition.

Any idea on when Direct TV will expand their HD programming? In my market I
only get 8 channels in HD. I don't consider TNTHD an actual HD channel and
rarely if ever watch programs on it. Their picture is a joke. I also still
do not recieve network channels in HD yet.

Summer '07 at the earliest. They have two more birds launching early
this spring. Until those are up and operational, they do not have the
bandwidth for additional HD. This has been confirmed by DirecTV.

You've got that right. What I loved the most was INHD to the Max. No more IMAX it appears.

Shane,

Is there any other subscribers currently who get more than 8 channels? I am
wondering how extensive their programming will be or if I should look at
Dish network more closely. Its funny but I cant bring myself to watch sd TV

----- HDTV Magazine Tips List -----

One only gets the HBO and Showtime HD if you buy the HBO and Showtime
packages for an additional charge.

I have never seen CD USA. What is it and what channel is it on? If I were to
include that, what I get would add up to the 8 mentioned. I do get the
"occasional" HD associated with something like the NFL Sunday Ticket (NFL
Network) or local Fox Regional HD on either 95 or 96.

DirecTV carries the local channels in high definition for 49 markets, which
covers 64% of U.S. households. But for cities other than NY and LA you must
have a 5-LNB dish and an MPEG-4 receiver. The 5-LNB dish picks up the F1 and
F2 satellites launched in 2005. Coverage for additional markets will have
to wait for the launches of two more satellites this year. -Ken

I am a long time "power" Dish (Echostar) user with a total of 4 dual
tuner HD PVRs (ViP 622s). Yes, I can simultaneously record eight
(8!) HD events if necessary. A bit of overkill, perhaps, but part of
the sickness of our common affliction. I also have one (1) DirecTV
TV receiver for the sole purpose of getting the YES network to watch
the NY Yankees. (Dish refuses to provide YES in a dispute between
itself and George Steinbrenner) so I have decided to pay almost
$500/year to get the Yankees (minimal package is about
$42/month). In my non-scientific analysis of my equipment I greatly
prefer the quality of the signal from Dish over DirecTV. I only have
SD for DirecTV and in a direct comparison with Dish it's no
contest. Dish SD is far superior to DirecTV SD. However, I realize
that this is for my installation only and might be related to my
location, my equipment, etc. FYI: I've tried to optimize the signal
for both services.

Incidentally, one might ask why I just didn't go with DirecTV instead
of having both services since I want to receive YES. That's easy to
answer. Dish offers far more HD programming than DirecTV (currently
my HD listing shows well over 30 channels full time in the list -
actually closer to 36 if you include all demo and occasional HD
channels). In addition, I have found the Dish PVRs to be extremely
functional and Dish service is far better than DirecTV (once again,
in my area) in my experience. Now that DirecTV has announced that it
will be adding new birds (I just saw a commercial where they are
claiming they will have a capacity for 150 channels) maybe I'll
re-evaluate the situation in a year or so. I notice that the DirecTV
ads always compare their HD offerings - now and in the future - to
cable and never to Echostar, which says a lot by its omission.

Besides, now that Murdoch is out of the picture I personally feel
that a merger might be re-introduced. I think the climate might be
better this time for this to take place, especially if the satellite
services also merge with one of the telcos (AT&T?) now that entities
like Verizon and Cablevision are getting into the 3 in 1 plans
(TV/Telephone/Internet).

Bottom line: From my experience, Dish is better than DirecTV. Your
mileage may vary (especially if you are into some of the NFL sports
packages - I'm not).

I just read in one of the updates that Dish is providing free HD DVR's. How
can Direct TV compete with that. I would think that Dish was able to keep
many of the HD channels that Voom had and to add a free HD DVR is awesome.
Has anyone on the board had both services at the same time to compare
picture quality?
