A reason to upgrade the spec of HDMI, again:

22 audio channels and 32 million pixels of image (Ultra HD at 7680 x 4320).

I am afraid we are going to have to come back from retirement and work again Hugh to buy this baby.

10-15 years?

This came up on the radio of all things today as well, Neal Boortz...

Considering the negativity surrounding HD-DVD versus SD DVD I have a
hard time seeing how this would have any real influence for the mass
market... It could replace film though, like really replace film...

;)

Along with 3D this could be the next frontier for the cinemaplex. Of
course the addition of 3D could easily go mass market based on what I
recently saw at the Atlanta aquarium...

What, you don't have a 4K system in your home Rodolfo??? Mine
arrived two weeks ago and it is absolutely gorgeous!! I chucked my
2K system to make room for it. The only logistical problem was
finding proper phasing locations for the 22 speakers and 10
subwoofers. And the amplifier rack is a tad on the heavy side.

But I'll manage.

$499 at Best Buy with the extended warranty.

Keep in mind that the compressed version of Ultra HD is 640 MB/s. The
uncompressed is somewhere north of 32 GB/s. Of course, I did see Maxwell at
the NAB and they were recording with the 'a long last developed' holographic
method where a continuous stream of 1.4 GB/s bursts were perfectly recorded
instantly. With the snap of the fingers a blast of light inscribes
holographically over a gig of data on what looked like a 4 inch round 3/4"
thick glass wheel. This system is designed for archiving uncompressed motion
picture data...but who knows its future? It's a tad spendy today, but what
wasn't in its inception? _Dale
