Tom Hanks delivers a tour de force performance in this Robinson Crusoe-style epic about
one man's ultimate battle against nature...and against himself. Chuck Noland (Hanks) is a
self-made man who perfectly twines his busy career as a system engineer for FedEx with his
deepening romantic relationship with his girlfriend Kelly (Helen Hunt). But his whole life
changes on Christmas Eve when his flight home crashes into the sea, leaving Chuck stranded
on a small deserted island with only a few FedEx packages floating in from the wreckage to
remind him of civilization. Chuck slowly learns to survive--finding food and water,
creating shelter, making a fire--but as time passes, his toughest battle becomes one
against loneliness. Four years later, Chuck makes an incredible escape from the island and
is rescued, but when he arrives home, he finds that the things he once held onto in
life--including Kelly--have dramatically changed. "Bold and unique" (Variety).
