12 NCAA Basketball Games To Be Broadcast In HDTV And 5.1 Surround Sound
NEW YORK, February 20, 2003 -- Sears, Roebuck and Co. (NYSE: S), and
CBS Television announced today an agreement in which Sears will sponsor
High Definition Television coverage of the 2003 NCAA Men's Basketball
Championship, including the Final Four and Championship games.
Coverage will include 12 High Definition games starting with first-round
action from Birmingham, Ala., on Friday, March 21 (four games) and Sunday,
March 23 (two games), as well as South Region action in San Antonio,
Friday, March 28 (two games) and Sunday, March 30 (one game). The first
eight games will be regionalized broadcasts, while the South Region final in San Antonio,
the two national semi-final games and the National Championship Game will be national broadcasts.
The telecasts, which will be presented live by CBS Sports,
will be "unified" productions produced in HDTV's highest definition format1080i,
and downconverted for the CBS Television Network's analog broadcast coverage.

WTTW11/CHICAGO PRESENTS A SNEAK PREVIEW
OF THE NATIONAL MUSIC SERIES SOUNDSTAGE
WTTW11 in Chicago is bringing the legendary
Soundstage music series back to public television in a new 13-part series
set the air this summer on PBS. The series is being shot in HD.
In March, a number of PBS stations will air a sneak preview of the series
during their pledge drives featuring Lyle Lovett and Randy Newman. The show
was just taped at our studios here in Chicago and looks and sounds
fantastic.
This broadcast is being offered nationally through PBS as a spring
fundraising special. Lyle Lovett is backed by a 14-piece band and a 26-piece
orchestra. The show was recently taped before a live audience at WTTW's
Grainger Studio, utilizing 11 state-of-the-art high definition cameras and
was mixed in 5.1 surround sound. The concert features songs that Lovett and
his special guests, Randy Newman and acclaimed trumpeter Mark Isham, have
either performed or written for feature films.
