regional sports networks as part of the MSO's latest free HDTV offerings.
FSN will concentrate its efforts in markets it shares with Time Warner, including
Los Angeles; Minneapolis; Orlando, Fla.; Houston; and North Carolina.
FSN will produce the games locally in high definition, and they will be available at
no additional charge to subscribers."

DIRECTV To Launch New
High-Definition Package
New HD Package will Launch July 1 and Include ESPN
HD, Discovery HD TheaterTM, HDNet and HDNet Movies
"I called DirecTV around 5:40 (Eastern) this morning
(7/103), and had the new HD channels added within 10 minutes. Of course, programming
didn't begin until 6am, but all the channels came on as expected. Here's the list of
channels:
73 ESPN HD 76 Discovery Theater 79 HD-Net 81 HD-Net Movies 84 HD Special Events 85 HD
Pay-Per-View 88 HBO HD (Also still being shown on 509)
I do not subscribe to Showtime, so I don't know what it's new HD channel is. Also, the
person I spoke to was unaware of a free trial period, but after having me on hold a few
minutes came back and said that I was all set for the free month. It doesn't appear that
these poor folks were given much information to work with.
Now I'm really looking forward to getting today's guide to see what's on Discovery Theater
tonight... :-)"

television service provider, announced today that it will launch a new high-definition
(HD) programming package on July 1. The HD package will include ESPN HD, Discovery HD
TheaterTM, HDNet and HDNet Movies, and is available by subscription for $10.99
per month.
In addition to ESPN HD, Discovery HD Theater, HDNet and HDNet Movies, DIRECTV will also
provide its customers with special events broadcast in HD, similar to events broadcast in
the past, such as USA's coverage of the Masters Tournament, NBA games and NBA TV
programming blocks.

coast-to-coast HD-feed more than four years ago," said Stephanie Campbell, senior

What a difference a day makes!
On the first of July DirecTV began offering its new HDTV tier to those who had about ten bucks a month to spare and a
third LNB, which you could pick up pretty cheaply. (Ask those on the TIPS List and they
will tell you where they got the best deals). So, I call my third party service provider, Pegasus, and while the representative did know about the HDTV package
she said it was not available due to...from here on it got little vague. The
supervisor spoke with more authority, but repeated the script just read out to me by the
first. Was it a business issue that had not been completed yet, I aksed? Or, was it a
technical proplem--perhaps something to do with an upgrade in their processing software?
The questions produced some hesitation and then the supervisor said it was the later.
"Call back Monday for an update."
If you go to our forum (or that of the AVS) you will
find that some people using Pegasus get service within minutes and others report the same
as this experience of mine. Under any circumstance for the HDTV roll out to be graced with
still another "stumble out" is quite hard for a devoted man of the HDTV cloth to
forgive...but, we must.
GRID GUIDE...
While we have been stuck a bit in progress on the big grid guide
that Shane Sturgeon has done such an excellent job of developing I am introducing a
"stand in" today to cover us for the interim. If you will click on the graphic
that says "HDTV's Prime Time Grid" at the top, or scroll down a few more lines,
you will find a grid for HDTV prime time. You can click on the program name and it whizzes
you to the program description, if there is one. Some of the sports programming won't have
these descriptions.
And...sorry for being a little later than usual today. This
Grid Guide took a tad longer to put together for the first time.
