some of its local and regional sports coverage.
Time Warner Cable will offer FSN games from Fox's 13 owned-and-operated
regional sports networks as part of the MSO's latest free HDTV offerings.
FSN will concentrate its efforts in markets it shares with Time Warner, including
Los Angeles; Minneapolis; Orlando, Fla.; Houston; and North Carolina.
FSN will produce the games locally in high definition, and they will be available at
no additional charge to subscribers."

DIRECTV To Launch New
High-Definition Package
New HD Package will Launch July 1 and Include ESPN
HD, Discovery HD TheaterTM, HDNet and HDNet Movies
"I called DirecTV around 5:40 (Eastern) this morning
(7/103), and had the new HD channels added within 10 minutes. Of course, programming
didn't begin until 6am, but all the channels came on as expected. Here's the list of
channels:
73 ESPN HD 76 Discovery Theater 79 HD-Net 81 HD-Net Movies 84 HD Special Events 85 HD
Pay-Per-View 88 HBO HD (Also still being shown on 509)
I do not subscribe to Showtime, so I don't know what it's new HD channel is. Also, the
person I spoke to was unaware of a free trial period, but after having me on hold a few
minutes came back and said that I was all set for the free month. It doesn't appear that
these poor folks were given much information to work with.
Now I'm really looking forward to getting today's guide to see what's on Discovery Theater
tonight... :-)"

today that it will launch a new high-definition (HD) programming package on July 1. The HD
package will include ESPN HD, Discovery HD TheaterTM, HDNet and HDNet Movies,
and is available by subscription for $10.99 per month.
In addition to ESPN HD, Discovery HD Theater, HDNet and HDNet Movies, DIRECTV will also
provide its customers with special events broadcast in HD, similar to events broadcast in
the past, such as USA's coverage of the Masters Tournament, NBA games and NBA TV
programming blocks.
"DIRECTV has been a passionate proponent of HDTV since it launched the first
coast-to-coast HD-feed more than four years ago," said Stephanie Campbell, senior
vice president, Programming, DIRECTV, Inc. "Over the last year, as the HD category
has gained tremendous momentum, our customers have told us they want more HD programming.
The launch of this HD package reinforces DIRECTV's commitment to the category, and to

I want to make a quick report to let you know that donations have been pouring in all
night long and the stream continues. I will have to manually tally but it may be that we
are as far as one third to the goal. If the momentum keeps up it will surpass the goal. I
hope someone picks up this story because I have never heard of anything quite like this
phenomena before. I am sure it is a reflection of the enormous appeal of HDTV. It's power
in the market is absolutely awesome because people just don't give up once they have a
taste. In talking to folks last night who have been learning the ins and outs of
installations I can see how things are starting to clear up there too. It will take a
great deal of education, but it is doable, and there are TV networks and stations all over
the country needing to educate their audience on how their signals can be received.
I can foresee now a video of instructions that will literally put people into the business
of being professional DTV installer at the mass level.
With the consumer side clearly in the emotional lead for this product nothing but good
things should result. The market place that finally decides shapes things to their liking.
That has to be good for the signal providers, the manufacturers, and retailers alike. I
think we will make it here at the Magazine with this tremendous outpouring of your
confidence and love. I am sure it is in your heart to see that this transition not only
gets done, but acts as a new cultural engine for the world. We do need it.Now I want to
get today's issue out to you so I will cut this short.There is some wonderful mail in from
you readers last night that I want to post, and will shortly.
