Its a busy week in HDTV this week. On the East Coast, in Orlando, Florida, the annual InfoComm conference is happening, where all the major display vendors show what is happening in the HDTV industry. But if you want to know whats going to happen in the future, you need to be on the West Coast this week, where the Society for Information Display annual meeting is being held in San Francisco, California. And thats where Ill be.

Im scheduled to talk with the movers and shakers, the inventors and the engineers, who will pioneer the future display technologies. Some are with major brands, such as Philips and Samsung, but others are with small companies that few people have ever heard of, such as Luminous.

Whether its LEDs for LCD backlights, or new lasers to light up rear projection displays, Ill be speaking with the folks who will be making it happen. I expect to see plastic displays that can be rolled up, and new projector designs. And I wont be surprised at all to find something totally new and unexpected.

So stay tuned; I should have some hot news on cool technologies to report on by the end of the week.
