Ed's view - KISS

A few weeks ago I read an article in a Cable on-line magazine in which the author was lamenting about the high percentage of cable and DBS subscribers who own HDTV monitors but do not sign-up for HDTV programming options. According to research cited by this author, the reason most of these subscribers do not elect to upgrade to HDTV service is that they believe they already are receiving HDTV. The reasons for this should not be surprising.

I recently visited my sister who bought a HDTV with built in tuner and
cable card slot. To my suprise her cable company installed a new
HD box but didn't use any of the digital options as DVI or component
or cable card. He plugged it in the same way the old box was plugged in.
He used composite inputs. She thought the picture should be better.
I fixed them up with DVI input. Now she see the difference. Don"t the installers know their product?

Hi,

If some of these people think they are receiving HD they either don't know what a HD picture looks like (from a size perspective), or they are receiving one, but not from cable.

They mightr have plugged in the same antenna they were using before and are pulling in whatever their antenna can find.

The nice thing about HD is you either get a perfect picture or nothing.. Of course with OTA there are drop/outs and other issues but it gives you a sense that your not a slave to cable or sat.

I would just love to be a cable or sat salesmant with the list in my area of everyone who has the equipment and the belief that their already getting hd.

Whoever has that list can make a fortune.
