Lawrence of Arabia - Super Bit

Post by HDTV Forum »

I still think "Lawrence of Arabia" ( 7 Oscars and #5 on the AFI top 100 best movie list) is the best wide screen movie ever made, even though the 1962 soundtrack is not up to modern standards.

It was shot on location in Jordan and Syria and is a true story about the meddling of European powers into the affairs of competing Arab tribes during WW I. The cultural insights alone make it a "Must see again today" for all with an interest in our American Troops fighting today in nearby Iraq. Lawrence wanted a unified Arab nation and he failed.

I agree, Lawrence Of Arabia is visually stunning. This film pushes the limits of Home Theatres. The cinematography alone is worth the price of admission.

I believe with the release of the Super Bit version- this is the third DVD package, along with the original version and the Criterion edition- not counting the LD

Larry,

I am waiting for analog magic in the form of an SDI DVD player to an SDI scaler. THEN, I will watch Lawrence. The standard version was pretty impressive so I expect this to be the ultimate, near HD experience.

I watched "Lawrence Of Arabia" the new Superbit version and it "is" spectacular!!!...I like the format too. The aspect ratio has just a slim black bar on the top and bottom...Audio is greatly enhanced also...I haven't seen this movie in years...Thanks for the Recommendations!

Just bought the superbit DVD of Lawrence of Arabia, movie was pretty good, first time I had seen it. Ending kinda stunk. The cinematography was great though. I am going to get Master and Commander today, interested to see how that looks.
