Tom Cruise plays Nathan Algren, a civil war and western folk hero working with the military and weapons manufacturers after the war is assigned to Japan to assist with training and commanding a force of new Japanese military men using modern western tactics and weapons to defeat the ancient Samurai supposedly standing in the way of progress. A mix of action and self reflection based on honor, integrity and character.

Tom Cruise has one hell of a streak for picking good to great movie projects. This will be one of the great ones for him with plenty of facets for Oscar nominations. Highly recommended!
