Question about DTS NEO6 plus THX and THX surround EX

Why do some superbit DVD's automatically play and say... DTS NEO6 plus THX ...and other superbit DVD's just play and say...THX surround EX...?...and is there a way to manually set your receiver to play in either mode?...(This is what my Pioneer Elite receiver reads)...In other words, when it's in DTS, it reads, DTS NEO6 plus THX...and when it's DD it reads, THX surround EX...(keep in mind this is a 7.1 system)...

I assume you mean Dolby Digital when you say THX. THX is not a surround mode - it's a standard.

Whether a DVD has a DTS soundtrack or Dolby Digital or both (or neither) is totally up to the producer of the DVD as is the default. I have the original version of True Lies and for some reason it defaults to 2 channel stereo instead of DD so I always check the sound setup just to be safe.

Superbit has nothing to do with the audio selections or defaults (I don't think).

You can either manually choose your surround mode or put the receiver in auto detect (which depends on whether the DVD producer set the proper flags - they don't always).

Allen...thanks, I guess what I should have said was...Why do some DVD's play DTS and some play DD EX when they say they have both?...for example, I have "The Fifth Element" and "Lawrence Of Arabia" and both are superbit and both say the exact same thing on the back of the box...they both say [Audio: DTS and Dolby Digital 5.1]...and yet only "Lawrence Of Arabia" plays in DTS...so I was trying to figure out why?

The DVD creator decides which soundtrack will be the default soundtrack. I guess some choose DTS because that's usually the best sound and some probably pick DD because some folks only have DD capable receivers/processors and not DTS.

That's why I always check the sound setup before starting a DVD. You never know what they chose.
