DVI/HDMI adapter
I have a 2 meter Monster HDMI cable that I want to use to go from my cable box to my tv. The only catch is that my cable box has DVI out. Monster has an adapter for about $30 that should work. Is there any significant downside to this set up versus getting an actual DVI to HDMI cable?

Re: DVI/HDMI adapter
I agree this should work, but isn't it true that the best picture in theory should be with the HDMI? I would think that introducing the adapter may degrade your picture somewhat.homerhd wrote:I have a 2 meter Monster HDMI cable that I want to use to go from my cable box to my tv. Does anyone know for sure about this????
I am just speculating.
Thanks for any info............I am just trying to learn something.

re:DVI adapter
My cable box doesn't have HDMI out, only DVI.

I am about to introduce a DCT6412 into my system and plan on going DVI out of the box and HDMI into my tv using a HDMI cable and a DVI adapter to connect to the stb. Do you think this would improve the situation you and Marion were discussing?

HDMI or DVI is not relevent for video as long as the display supports HDCP. HDMI does by it's very nature but for DVI check your manual.
As for your STB question it will make no difference and neither will the adapter. The adapter would only become an issue if you were approaching the limits of this connection, roughly 30 feet.
