HR 10 250 Problems

Post by Tombanjo »

My HD TiVo seems to be going down hill. First I started getting frequent audio echoing and now when I went to watch "Dateline" from my "Now Playing List," Condeleeza Rice's face, from a just deleted Meet The Press, was frozen on the screen with the audio of Dateline sluggishly playing. Then the Dateline show played normally for a while until Condi's mug popped up frozen again.

I had this problem with my previous Directv TiVo (SD) but never addressed it because the HD Tivo's came out right about then.

Luckily I decided to pay the $8 a month protection plan fee that D* offered. I don't usually go for these extended warranty plans that everyone offers for the products, but $8 a month ($96 a year) seemed like a pretty low price for a $1000 first generation computer based product. Let's see if they make good on it.

Have you tried rebooting?

Yes, several times. Rebooting worked the last time this happened last month, but the problem has returned. Besides, I'm not going to keep rebooting every time this happens. Not for a $1000 machine, that's for sure. I lost the "Dateline" episode I recorded because of this overlapping of programs. Next time it could be something I really wanted to watch. I understand rebooting is an easy fix it for simple problems like freeze ups, but something is wrong with the hard drive imo.

I spoke with D* today and they said I should see if the same problems come up while watching in real time (something I never do) to rule out any interference with the signal from the dish or connectivity issues. I said I would, mainly to humor them, but I'll be interested in how they remedy this issue via my protection plan.

Try forcing a reload of the software. Support will probably suggest that anyway, and they'll have to tell you how to do it unless you can find that from avsforum.
