Just wanted to give my final analysis of the 100U. Overall, I'd give it
a 2 star (out of 5) rating.

Pros:
Integrated tuner
HDMI
DTS

Cons:
Extreme cost ($1200)
Tuner stinks (never could get Fox)
On screen guide makes you change channels as you navigate it
On screen menu is very slow
Channel changes take 6 seconds each, including audio drop
Have to lower door to put tape in
Never could figure out how to reset counter

I've seen 'scratch & dents' at Crutchfield for $950 ($999 regular),
but, it is a VCR with ATSC tuner, which bought separately would cost
you over $1000. (And I originally paid $999 for my 30kU that didn't
even come with an ATSC tuner.)

Interesting, a user on the AVS forums found it was better than some
of his STBs. Also, you need to have both antenna hookups
connected--as the forum members also found out.

I'm not sure I'd be using it to surf channels so this is more a short
annoyance. And, this is also a 'feature' of digital broadcasts.
Even, the fastest tuners are rather slow compared to an SD one.

>Have to lower door to put tape in

Doesn't really bother me with the 40kU, and only the 5U doesn't have
a door. But, I do like the display better than the 40k--more
reminiscent of the 30k, so I can actually see the elapsed time.

It's on the remote. It's the "CANCEL <" button. It has a "C. RESET"
label above it.

Waiting for them to drop to below $700 or so.
