HDMI - Audio Output Amplitude

Post by HDMI_Vincent »

What is the typical range for HDMI Audio Output amplitude? How do you determine it?

Thanks.

Is this a test? :)

Well, it is not a test. Some of the audio/video generators specs mention something about HDMI audio output amplitude of -96.3 to 0.0 dBFS. I would like to know what this amplitude means in this case. What is the typical range for it.

It is the range as it was stated but that is based on digital encoding or the dynamic range of the digital format.

It sounds like you are trying to convert that into an analog waveform and value? Difficult to do because that would depend on the analog levels designed by the manufacturer for thier product meaning 0dBFS could be 1 volt or 2 volts or any other voltage. The key in testing a product would be providing a -96.3 to 0.0 dBFS encoded response for decoding and confirm you are getting that range of response on the analog output.

Hope I got that right...
