Sony Does What on the DHG-HDD500 for 150.00+ dollars

Post by emondragon »

I have seen on Sony's website the DHG-HDD500 DVR would be repaired for a $150.00+ flat rate fee. Has anyone done this to their Sony DVR? What is done to the DVR for this flat rate fee? It seems strange that it does not mention plus parts as a condition for the repair. It might be worth it if they replaced the hard drives (because they spin continuely 24/7 for the last couple of years) and of course upgrade the firmware. Also, did Sony agree to repair these DVR series for a limited time without further conditions and what is that time period? Thank you.

Flat rate repairs from manufacturers is old hat and started so many moons ago...

Basically they look at what it costs as an average and come up with a flat rate that they can still make money on.

The advantage is huge in that it is a no fuss no muss git 'er done system for both parties; no estimates, estimate fees, phone calls and such. We use a similar system for the same reasons... preauthorize a repair amount up front for common everyday repairs so we can spend time fixing things rather than discussing them and waiting on decisions.
