IMO the Monster cables are not worth their cost. I was conned into buying a DVI cable when I first entered the HDTV world, but would not buy one today.
DVI is the same signal as HDMI except for not having audio, only video.

DVI and HDMI are two different connector types sending two types of digital video and are compatible for working but not for necessarily for performance. For performance HDMI is recommended only because that is where everything is going. As for connecting things to maintain the best response you would want the connector on each end to match what it is being connected to, source or display, so you are not using adapters. Adapters detune the impedance of the circuit.

Cables are available in HDMI/HDMI, DVI/HDMI, DVI/DVI so it is easy to use the right cable for the right job and using http://ehdmi.com/ won't flatten your wallet for the average stuff being all together HT system.

When you go beyond 15 feet what cable you are using and how it is constructed becomes far more critical...

As noted, only HDMI supports digital audio on the cable...
