External HD Tuners

I am pretty new to the HD technology, and I have a quick question to bounce off of everyone. I have an Olevia 327v (thats right, the one without a coax input), and I'm looking for a solution to receive the both the NTSC and the HD channels put out by the cable company that provides for the dorm I am in. I know there are some HD channels available in my area, as a friend of mine has a 227v, which has a NTSC/ATSC tuner built in. Are there any products out there that would remedy my situation? Basically, I'm looking for something that has a built-in NTSC and ATSC tuner, that converts the video to another output, such as HDMI, component, S-video ect. Thanks

If your source is going to be cable TV, you will need a QAM tuner not an ATSC/NTSC. There are devices out there that will do just that. You can also rent one from the cable company.

Thanks bobby....I've looked into that product now, and also found the LG LST-4200A. What is everyone's opinion on these items? Are there other options out there too?

The LST 4200A is very hard to find these days. There is one on EBay right now, and only one. It has a bit more than 4 hours until it's over.

where was it changed in the rules of getting a chance to attend college that anyone WAS supposed to DO anything BUT ...study...??

I know these boxes are kinda out of date by now, and I'm trying to find the most cost-effective solution.

How about the Samsung SIR-T451? It seems like this would work for my situation. Any opinions?

The Samsung SIR T451 has a QAM tuner in it, so it will work for unencrypted channels on the cable system. If you're interested in ESPN and the like, they are encrypted and require a cable box to decode them.

Since you want cable HD you are pretty much stuck with recent equipment that supports QAM and it variations...

Another option is get a cable box from your provider, typically $15 a month, get an old VCR or buy a cheapy VCR as your NTSC tuner although I don't see why you would need that with a cable box.
