Ever since I got the 1st HD DVR I've been all over DirectTV. I've cut them no slack at all and demanded(and got) substantial refunds from them. I have also pointed out to them unethical dilemma of releasing an essentially beta test device/software on an unassuming public. When fiber optic is finally inside the house I will probably drop them like a hot rock.
I have to agree with wmartson and the others that there has been substantial improvement in the device reliability and function since it's initial release. I got my first unit in November, I believe, as a replacement for the 5th H10-250. As has also been said, infant mortality, manufacutring issues, the overwhelming demand and repair tech learning curves didn't exactly help the situation either. As a *former development, manufacturing, quality and test engineer I have an intimate knowledge of what goes into the manufacture and release of high technology devices behind the scenes.
*I am currently a senior VP of regulatory affairs now for a medical device manufacturer, hence the "former" but I still use all of those skills in the context of my responsibilities.

OK, pal... We get it. You hate DirecTV and you are wasting our time with you snide comments and dried up wit.[email protected] wrote:I hope I never read, "I think it's time to retire this topic" again. Unless the author identifies him/herself as an employee of DirecTV.
I suspect your iPhone died on the first day and your XBOX is overheating terribly.
I have two HR20-700s and they worked horribly in the early days. My patience has been rewarded and I am very happy with the product. Being a happy customer does not make me a spy, or a shill, or a moron.
I am a retired telecommunications executive with 35 years experience in product development, marketing and support.
I understand that some percentage of any product are going the fail. But, I have never heard any DirecTV customer say that D* would not TRY to make it right. 16 million subscribers can't all be wrong.
I say again, "It's time to retire this topic." because the debate is not, "Raging ON!!". The only thing raging is a private party who is probably not a D* subscriber or the owner of an HR20-700.
Come on.... give it a rest.
BTW, my iPhone and my XBOX are working fine, too. I am not an employee of Apple or Microsoft, either.

14 months and counting
My first HR-20-700 DVR went into service in early September 2006. My number two is only 4 months old. I added one terabyte to the first one and use it just for HD, the second HR-20-700 DVR just records normal programs. The recorders are turned on 24/7. I try to maintain 30% free space on each recorder.
I guess some work and some don't!
