Sheldon1451, hjlanda and RTHVZB,
Thanks for sharing your info! I hope you are able to get what you deserve and I hope Mits steps up to the plate and get's their crap together. With all of this new found info, I am not sure if I would buy another product from Mit's. I am a consumer and I vote with my feet!
So, I just started experiencing an issue with my Mits WD-62725 DLP and I think it's just the lamp. I hope it's just the lamp and not the light engine! If it's more than the lamp, I am not willing to deal with the BS that Mit's has given you guys. So what I need is a second opinion. I called their CSR to ask some basic info , but everything is scripted. I got 5 minutes into the conversation and saw it was going nowhere and politely told them I had a bad connection and that I would call back when it was convenient for me.
So I am hoping this forum might give me a second opinion. My TV decided one day (7 days ago) to just shut down. Prior to that, the image on the screen seemed fine, crisp and clear. I did not think anything of it and just turned the TV back on. Whal-La, I am back in business ... but only for about 2-3 minutes when the TV just shuts down again. I can do this all day and all night and the TV only runs for about 2 minute intervals. I noticed the lamp indicator light turned on, so I was about to just order a new lamp online but came across this thread. I read all 7 pages and now I am hoping that it is just the lamp. I was told that the lamp indicator light turns on for more than just lamp replacement issues and I should not assume it is just the lamp. Before I spend $150 for a new lamp, can anyone tell me if this is the normal symptoms of a bad lamp? Isn't a lamp similar to a light bulb? When a bulb goes out, you can't just turn it back on. It's flat out dead. If my lamp is bad, why does it allow me to turn it back on for short periods? I am new to DLP and any info would be appreciated.
Rick

MITSUBISHI - DLP 06 FAILED LIGHT ENGINE
Hi Rick:
I'm sure that the moderator, Richard, will be able to answer that question. You're right about the scripted response at Mitsu and it is so frustrating!!!
Hope your problem is a simple one with a quick/easy fix.

That exact issue happened with my WD-73727 in Oct07. The TV would turn on with picture for 15 to 20 seconds, then it would shut down and red indicator lamp would be lit. Purchased from Tweeter in July06 with a 5yr warranty. First they replaced the lamp, then the ballast, to no avail. I complained hard and they replaced my unit with a new WD-73727. Through a small amount of research, I know others had the same issue and replacing the lamp and ballast did not fix the problem.
Unfortunately I'm now dealing with the issue described in the topic of this thread. I can still watch this TV but the longer it is on and heats up the worse the banding/color gradient issues become. I have a backorder for a new light engine they say is arrived in the US from Japan on 12/15. I'm hoping my TV holds out for a few more weeks till the replacement is installed.
Good Luck.

Rick,
What you have read is not the norm and your TV has no relation to the thread you posted to except for the brand name.
Check your manual, if the front panel indicators are telling you need a lamp then the odds are pretty good that is the case considering the age of your display. Pulling and visually inspecting it for obvious damage certainly confirms that but lamps don't always physically self destruct, they also just die. If after installing the lamp you still find you have a problem then it is time to call service.

Richard,
Thanks for the response. I pulled the lamp assy and all looks normal. The filament in the bulb still looks intact (not broken). I went online and ordered a new bulb. Gotta love ebay! I hope the money was well spent and fixes the issue.
I still have one question (sorry if in wrong thread). Is it normal for a lamp to become intermittent before it completely dies? The fact that it still works for 2 minutes at a time has thrown me for a loop.
On another note, I hope the rest of you guys with the light engine issues get an early Christmas gift from Mitsubishi after all the crud you have had to deal with!
Take care and Happy Holidays,
Rick
