Orb Audio Mod2 5.1 Speaker System

Orb Audio makes small speakers and sells direct to the consumer similar to Aperion and many other speaker manufacturers. By cutting out middle men the company is able to sell speakers at a greatly reduced cost. The speakers are small in size measuring 4 3/16" W x 5" H x 4 7/8" D with stand and weigh 2.0625 pounds (.94 Kg). They also come in a center channel orientation with the two spheres mounted side by side.
The speakers are made out of American carbon steel and hand made in the USA (California and Oregon). The only exception is part of the subwoofer, which is made in Canada. The speakers come in 5 finishes (Metallic Black Gloss, Pearl White Gloss, Hand Polished Steel, Hand Antiqued Copper, and Hand Antiqued Bronze) so there will definitely be something that the aesthetics committee will approve.

Orb Audio speakers

I was pleased to read your review as I am seriously considering purchase of the Orb Speakers and was concerned about the 4 ohm impedance rating. This is because the two receivers that I am considering for purchase are the Pioneer VSX-1019AH-K (MSRP $500) and the Pioneer VSX-21TXH (MSRP $700) and both are rated at 8 ohms. Obviously the latter receiver SHOULD be better! ($200 better to be exact) but I am too technically challenged when I read their respective spec sheets to tell if this is the case or not. I would therefore like your opinion regarding which of these two receivers to purchase. Please be advised that I can purchase these two receivers for about a difference of only $20 so for me price is NOT the issue, only bang for my bucks. If you could specifically address why the VSX-21TXH is about 10 pounds heavier than the 1019 I would be most grateful. It would be great if other readers who know about these two receivers could also provide comments. Many thanks!
