If the product in your home accepts a remote command, has an RS232 serial interface or access to the internet, there are numerous products out there for whatever you want to control from a central or remote location. Think big and out of the box; if the current product in your home lacks a particular feature, there is likely another you can buy that doesn’t!

I have been a user of X-10 type control for about as long as I can remember....like maybe to the late 70's. And today I have about 20 or so lights managed by it. I have repeatedly bought software like the Insteon HomeLinc, but even as a pro-programmer, I have not ever really setup a very complex system. Mostly motion sensor to remote lighting, or manual remote control.

So I suppose my answer is I am interested, but can't really see spending more than about $1,000. (including the obligatory power line bridge in the electrical panel - transfers the signal from one 110 leg to the other).
