There is a critical distinction between a color temperature of 6500K and D6500.
6500K actually encompasses a range of color temperatures that COULD be neutral gray but more often carry a tint, ranging from light green to dark green, or magenta to purple. Another way to think about this is that 6500K is a line on the color chart where different combinations of red, green and blue light combine for a color temperature of 6500K, while D6500 is a single point on that line.
D6500 represents true, neutral gray and this point on the color temperature chart is the standard used for video production.
