MINISTRY TO INCLUDE 720P VIDEO FORMAT The Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications said it will include the 720P format as one of its five video standards for digital television broadcasting, slated to begin in 2000 at the earliest. Personal-computer manufacturers in the U.S. have pushed for the inclusion of the 720P format, which is highly compatible with computer technology and offers text and data broadcasting and Internet compatibility. The 720P format can also create images similar to other high-definition technologies, a ministry-appointed research panel reported. The ministry had unofficially decided on five standards, including 720P, for broadcasts of digital satellite and ground TV, but had earlier said official selection depended on the results of field trials.
