ATSC & ITS TO CO-SPONSOR SEMINAR ON ATSC STANDARDS

Seminar to Feature Basic Tutorials on PSIP, Data Broadcast & DASE

WASHINGTON, D.C., November 13, 2000
Advanced Television Systems Committee (ATSC) and The Association of Imaging Technology and Sound (ITS) announced that they will co-sponsor a seminar on the ATSC Standards on Program and System Information Protocol (PSIP) and Data Broadcast. The seminar will also include an Introduction to the DTV Application Software Environment (DASE) Standard currently under development within the ATSC.

The ATSC PSIP Standard (A/65A) provides a methodology for transporting critical information that enables DTV receivers to properly identify and tune to digital program services. The ATSC Data Broadcast Standard (A/90) defines protocols for transmission of data as a part of the digital broadcast signal. DASE defines a DTV receiver middleware layer to create common platforms that will support enhanced and interactive services.

The ATSC Standards seminar will be held on February 21st in Palm Springs, California in conjunction with the ITS Technology Retreat which will take place February 22nd through February 25th. Registration information will be available at http://www.itsnet.org/ and http://www.itsnet.org/.

Terry Rainey, President of ITS, said, "Our collaboration with ATSC is a part of our ongoing mission to facilitate exchange of information and knowledge within the industry."
