Liar Liar
Fletcher Reede (Jim Carrey) is a smooth-talking, successful
lawyer and habitual liar whose over-the-top court performances
and "little" white lies have won him many cases. For Fletcher,
lying is a part of normal court proceedings; and his demanding
and seductive boss, Miranda (Amanda Donohoe) is counting on him
to rack up his court victories with a promise to make him
partner at the firm. But Fletcher's lying is not winning him any
cases at home -- especially with his vulnerable, adoring young
son, Max (Justin Cooper, "Dennis the Menace Strikes Again"), and
his ex-wife, Audrey (Maura Tierney), who still harbors some
feelings for Fletcher. Fletcher disappoints Max so much with his
many excuses for not spending time with him that Audrey plans to
relocate the family and marry her dull but nice boyfriend, Jerry
(Cary Elwes). When Fletcher lies to Max again about his reason
for not coming to his fifth birthday party, Max is heartbroken.
As he blows out the candles on his birthday cake, he makes a
wish that his father cannot tell a lie for 24 hours. Magically,
his wish comes true and it throws Fletcher's life into a comic
tailspin!
