The Wonderful World of Disney: The Castaway

Starring Tom Hanks, Helen Hunt, Paul Sanchez, Lari White, Leonid Citer, Chris Noth and David Allen Brooks.

In Cast Away, Tom Hanks stars as a "Type-A personality" executive named Tom Noland who flies around the world solving problems for his shipping company. A taskmaster and devotee of time management, he squeezes in a rushed Christmas Eve dinner with his fiancée (Helen Hunt), before he is called away to a company crisis in the South Pacific. Before boarding his flight, he gives her a surprise gift that appears to be an engagement ring, and he promises to return for New Year's.

Noland's flight suffers a catastrophic explosion over the Pacific and crashes into the sea. He emerges as the sole survivor and begins a remarkable, modern-day Robinson Crusoe existence on an uninhabited island where time — which he valued so highly — is now meaningless. Faced with absolute isolation, he must quickly learn survival skills to save both his live and his sanity.

The 2000 release was directed by Robert Zemeckis. The screenplay was written by William Broyles Jr.

This film carries a TV-PG,V parental guideline.

"Escape"
When an upper Westside resident finds a young boy scavenging through his garbage looking for food, Detectives Stabler (Christopher Meloni) and Benson (Mariska Hargitay) track down the child's mother, believing him to be the victim of abuse. However, after the detectives interview the single mother, they discover she rules her home with a tight fist keeping a close watch on both her sons, sharing her paranoia over the dangers of the city with them. Dixie Carter ("Designing Women") also guest stars in the episode as Attorney Denise Brockmorton and Marlo Thomas ("That Girl") portrays a former judge gone into private practice who offers some sagely advice. Dann Florek, Richard Belzer, Ice-T and Diane Neal also star.
