HDNet and Mavericks Surf Ventures Announce Broadcast Premiere of The 2003-04 Mavericks Surf Contest

World's First HDTV Surfing Competition Air Date Set for April 7

Dallas and San Francisco, March 25, 2004. HDNet and Mavericks Surf Ventures today announced that HDNet-the leader in high definition television (HDTV) broadcasting-is poised to make history on April 7, 2004. On that date at 8:00 p.m. ET, HDNet will air its production of The 2003-04 Mavericks Surf Contest(TM) as the world's first HDTV broadcast of a surfing competition.

The 2003-04 Mavericks Surf Contest returned with a vengeance on February 27, 2004, with 20,000 official website visitors, 15,000 spectators, 80 credentialed media, and 24 of the world's premier big wave surfing professionals. With a National Emmy Award-winning producer/director at the helm, HDNet was on hand to capture the epic event. Now, on April 7, HDNet will broadcast the Contest to viewers in full 1080i HDTV-a first in surfing.

"The Mavericks Surf Contest is a fantastic addition to HDNet's lineup of originally-produced HD programming," said Mark Cuban, co-founder and president of HDNet. "We're thrilled to be taking the ultimate surfing contest and combining it with the ultimate television viewing experience-a winning combination."
