ABC Monday Movie of the Week: What Lies Beneath
What Lies Beneath tells the story of an apparently ideal couple as
they renovate an old family house on the shores of a lake. The
mild-mannered professor (Ford) tries to cope with the increasingly
disturbing fears and experiences of his wife (Pfeiffer), who is
recovering from an horrific auto accident. She can't remember the
accident or what led up to it; but when she is home alone, doors open
by themselves, picture frames move, the bathtub fills and the dog
barks at unseen threats. The situation escalates to the point where
she believes the neighbor has killed his wife. The good professor has
her consult a psychiatrist but there is no relief from her visions and
mounting anxiety.
