JAKERS!

PBS KIDS’ FIRST ALL HIGH DEFINITION, EMMY AWARD-WINNING SERIES
TO BE SHOWCASED ON HDTV SCREENS
IN SEARS AND CIRCUIT CITY STORES NATIONWIDE

JAKERS! THE ADVENTURES OF PIGGLEY WINKS

Produced by Entara and Mike Young Productions

Joins PRN’s Home Electronics Network in June

Beginning this month, millions of Sears and Circuit City shoppers around the country will see segments of PBS KIDS’ Emmy Award-winning JAKERS! THE ADVENTURES OF PIGGLEY WINKS, the network’s first children’s series produced entirely in high definition, while browsing in the home electronics departments of these major retail outlets.

The JAKERS! feature is part of an overall offering of PBS high definition shows that will be distributed via PRN, the nation’s largest in-store television network.  JAKERS! is produced by London-based Entara, which owns and manages the property worldwide, and Los Angeles-based Mike Young Productions (MYP).  PBS affiliate WLIW New York serves as the presenting station.

“JAKERS! raises the bar for both CGI animation and high definition television,” says Linda Simensky, Senior Director, Programming, PBS KIDS.  “Piggley Winks and his 3D co-stars perform in richly colored, lush environments, providing the ideal backdrop for consumers choosing a high-definition television.”

“JAKERS! shows consumers that there is outstanding HD content available for all members of the family and is an example of the extraordinary visual experience that HDTV gives viewers," said Peter Cullen, General Manager of Home Electronics Networks for PRN.

Aimed at three- to six-year-olds, JAKERS! follows Piggley Winks and his friends Dannan the Duck and Ferny the Bull through their childhood in rural 1950s Ireland. Their hometown of Tara, and the surrounding areas, provides the safe and secure backdrop for their fertile imaginations to run riot—“Jakers!” is their oft-repeated Irish expression of amazement and delight.  Whether they are fishing for the salmon of knowledge, sailing the seven seas in their pirate ship (made of hay bales!), or trying to avoid their chores, Piggley, Dannan and Ferny will find a way to turn the familiar into the utterly fantastic.

JAKERS! debuted on PBS KIDS in September 2003 and quickly became a favorite among fans and critics alike, garnering rave reviews in The Hollywood Reporter, TV Guide, Child Magazine, the Los Angeles Times and The New York Times, among many others. The series has also received numerous accolades including a 2004 Parents' Choice Silver Honor Award; two Annie Award nominations; a 2003 Genesis Commendation from the US Humane Society; two Daytime Emmy Awards for Outstanding Achievement in Production Design and Outstanding Achievement in Storyboarding; and the Prix Jeunesse Preschool Web Prize.  For more information about the series, visit http://pbskids.org/jakers.
