"The Proposal"

When Carol (Julie Bowen) arrives back from New York for Thanksgiving, an overwhelmed Ed (Tom Cavanagh) seizes the moment to express his love by quietly -- and rapidly -- assembling a pastiche of her favorite memories as a tribute while Mike (Josh Randall) shudders at the thought of entertaining his visiting parents (Burt Reynold, "Deliverance," and Blair Brown, "The Days and Nights of Molly Dodd"). As Mike tries to tolerate his domineering dad and his curious way of deep-frying "the bird," a lovestruck Eli (Daryl Mitchell) creatively enlists Jenny's (Marcy Harriell) aid in whomping up a holiday dinner for the needy in Stuckeybowl. Jana Marie Hupp, Lesley Boone and Michael Ian Black also star.

"Shutdown"
A disastrous fiscal crisis looms when the federal government is shut down after the President (Martin Sheen) engages in a war of wills between the powerful GOP House Speaker (guest star Steven Culp)over an extra two percent in budget reductions that would trim many of Bartlet's key social programs -- and the Democrats are blamed based on opinion polls. As Leo (John Spencer), Josh (Bradley Whitford) and Toby (Richard Schiff) send everyone home, they remain uneasy as the President refuses to compromise -- until he arrives on a bold plan to personally and publicly challenge the Republicans in the halls of the Capitol. Meanwhile, Abbey (Stockard Channing) suddenly reappears from her self-imposed exile for a State dinner that she might have to cook herself. Allison Janney, Dule Hill, Janel Moloney and Josh Malina also star.

Martin) sort through a laundry list of people with a grudge against the victim. However, when ballistics show the bullets used in the attack came from an army issued handgun, the detectives set their sights on a disgruntled sergeant who blames the journalist for the death of several of his men. Sam Waterston, Elisabeth Rohm, Fred Thompson and S. Epatha Merkerson also star.
