Holmes & Portis Set to Dual in Denver

Shields Set to Own the Most Starts in
Chiefs History
Eight-time Pro Bowl G Will Shields is scheduled to record his
172nd start on Sunday, a mark that will bypass C Jack Rudnay (171)
for the most games started in Chiefs history. KC officially began
tracking that stat for players other than QBs in 68. If Shields
takes the opening offensive snap on Sunday, he will top the Chiefs
all-time games started list which will read as follows: Shields
(172), Rudnay (171), C Tim Grunhard (164), QB Len Dawson (159) and
LB Derrick Thomas (157).
KC Seeks to Finish Season with an 11-1
Conference Record
The Chiefs currently own a 10-1 record against AFC opponents and
are seeking to become just the 15th team since the AFL-NFL merger
in 70 to finish the season with 11 or more conference wins.
Sundays game is KCs last conference game of 2003. KCs last
three contests are vs. NFC foes. After head-to-head records,
conference record is the next tiebreaker used when breaking a
potential tie for homefield advantage. NE is currently the only
other AFC team with a single conference loss.
Of the 15 teams to win 11 or more
conference games since 70, 14 have reached a conference title
game, nine have reached the Super Bowl and seven have won the
Super Bowl. The lone team not to reach at least a conference title
match after finishing with 11 conference wins was the 76 Colts,
who lost 40-14 in the AFC Div. Playoffs vs. Pittsburgh. Only two
clubs since 70 have finished a season with 11+ conference wins
two or more times San Francisco (84, 92, 97) and Denver (77
and 98).

Reader Mail...
When you read articles about the confusion still confounding
the consumers you might ask, "but what are they confused about?"
Below is just one example.
I hope you have noticed the same thing
I have
noticed that an HDTV screen ( which is wider than regular TV)
stretches a regular signal horizontally and the picture is
distorted. This happens at sports bars all the time and I have
seen it elsewhere. ( not when an actual HDTV signal is being used,
but a non HDTV signal)
Is
there a setting on an HDTV that will crop the picture or
square it off, and NOT distort it or do we have to live with a
distorted image when the signal is being broadcast in a square
format.
We
want to get an HDTV, but I refuse to watch programs where the
image is distorted. If you could clear up this confusion it would
be appreciated.

Another comment on the earlier Voom reports...
Dale,
I don't understand, except for "brand loyalty" the negative
attitude toward VOOM. It is a great system that is going through a
"beta" period, which means FREE HD programming and a money back
guarantee for a few more months.
While most of the movies on the Voom unique channels are not OAR
(like HBO), the transfer quality is great. I love to see classics
(particularly B&W classics that aren't the types of movies that
get HD transferred. I love epics and while not all programming on
the epics theme channel (not enough) are what I consider epics
like the wonderful transfer of The Vikings, there is value there.
The BIG news is the little DBS service that could gave us Starz HD
last night, East & West coast, so I'm looking forward to Starz
listings. This is a real differentiator and the a small example of
many more HD stations to come. Just the East & West feeds are
great while we wait for a 2 Tuner OTA, 2 tuner Sat PVR and
firewire this Spring.
Voom is great. I had a very professional installer that worked
with me and even gave me an extra coax run at no charge.
There is excitement again like when the DTC-100 and I remember
that President's day weekend hooking it up and getting HBO HD.
Folks may want to wait until things settle out and the
installation becomes rote, but for the brave of heart the rewards
are dramatic and it is hard to argue about the price.
