Santa Ana, CA (December 5, 2000) - Princeton Graphic Systems (R), a leading manufacturer of award-winning computer and convergence products, introduces the PureProgressive PSC-1500 scan converter. This new high performance progressive-scan converter provides viewers outstanding images from DVD and standard video (NTSC) sources. Performing more than six billion arithmetic operations per second on the incoming signal, the technologically advanced PSC-1500's performance creates a 480p image that is better than those created by line doublers/scalers costing thousands of dollars. The new product replaces and upgrades the PSC-1000 by adding a horizontal squeeze function for viewing 4:3 formatted material on 16:9 displays. The PSC-1500 has a suggested list price of $749. and is shipping now.

When used in conjunction with Princeton's award-winning line of Arcadia(R) large screen convergence monitors, the progressive images are vastly superior to standard interlaced video and are virtually free from annoying scan lines and motion artifacts. The PureProgressive PSC-1500 is compatible with all DTV and HDTV display devices with a horizontal scanning frequency of 31.5 kHz or higher. For optimum versatility, the PSC-1500 allows source material to be output in RGBHV or Y, Pb, Pr (component video) formats, making it compatible with most DTV, HDTV and high-resolution projection display devices.

The PSC-1500 is compatible with all video sources that output composite or S-Video signals. It dramatically improves images from DVD, laserdisc, VCR, cable boxes and satellite receivers. The PSC-1500 uses data from four video fields to determine which portions of the image are in motion, what type of movement exists in each and how best to generate a progressive image with maximum picture detail. This process creates a superior progressive image that is free of flickering, loss of picture detail, and irritating motion artifacts.

The PSC-1500 generates extensive detail in the output image. The PSC-1500 determines whether the incoming video was originally captured from film, was created from computer graphics, was generated from a video game, or was from a video camera. For film and graphics, the PSC-1500 reassembles the original progressive frames for a higher quality displayed image. By using an auto-switching 3:2 pulldown detection on filmed sources, the PSC-1500 performance is unequaled. The advanced design of the PSC-1500 allows for reliable source detection including noisy signals and poor video.

The PSC-1500 offers standard NTSC inputs from two S-Video connections and a composite input. The unit includes auto source sensing and switching and its video circuit contains a high-detail low noise video decoder combined with a high quality Y/C comb filter. The output of the PSC-1500 is through 10-bit video DACs that deliver a signal in a 480p progressive signal at a 31.5 kHz scan rate. The output connector is a VGA-type DB15 connector that is selectable between RGBHV or Y, Pb, Pr output signal.
