Television Division of Liberty Livewire to Standardize with Snell & Wilcox HD Equipment

Division to Standardize Global Operations using Snell & Wilcox Format Converters, HD Switchers

SANTA CLARA, CA, May 9, 2001 - Snell & Wilcox announced that Liberty Livewire Corporation’s Television Division will standardize its global operations by employing Snell & Wilcox format converters and high-definition/standard definition switchers, beginning with its North American facilities. According to Larry Chernoff, President, Liberty Livewire Corp. Television Division, Snell & Wilcox was selected over competitive manufacturers due to the high quality of the products and the company’s strong reputation in format conversion and high definition post-production.

“We’re looking forward to the standardization of additional Snell & Wilcox products throughout our many facilities,” said Chernoff. “As a long-time user of Snell & Wilcox’ standards converters, we’re confident that the quality of the high-definition products we’ve selected are unsurpassed.”

Snell & Wilcox products were selected following extensive testing and evaluation by Chernoff and Liberty Livewire Television Division Chief Technology Officer Phil Mendelson, as well as other division engineers. John Shike, Vice President of Marketing, Snell & Wilcox, Inc. commented, “Snell & Wilcox is pleased to further its relationship with Liberty Livewire as its Television Division continues to standardize on Snell & Wilcox products throughout its facilities. Using our format converters, Liberty Livewire Television Division facilities will be able to adopt the latest high definition formats and switch between past and present formats with ease. In addition, with the standardization of our HD/SD switchers, its telecine operations will find the support of all high-definition formats including 1080i/24p of our switchers to be unmatched. We look forward to developing new solutions for Liberty Livewire in the future.”

The company will install Snell & Wilcox HD5200 high-definition upconverters, HD6200 high-definition crossconverters, and HD1010 high-definition production switchers. The HD5200 is a 10-bit, high definition upconverter that can upconvert standard definition video signals to high definition output formats. The HD5200 provides both the standards conversion and aspect ratio conversion required during the upconversion process and features built-in test pattern generators, GPIs and color space conversion, and can genlock to both standard and high definition references.

The HD6200 is a compact 10-bit high-definition linear crossconverter that can convert any standard or high definition film or video input to any standard definition or high definition output. The HD6200 features built-in test pattern generators, aspect ratio conversion, and color space conversion and can genlock to both standard and high definition format.

The HD1010 is an eight-input high definition switcher designed to bring powerful and cost-effective high definition switching to operations where space is at a premium. A small footprint control panel and 5RU mainframe make it an ideal choice for small OB vans. In telecine applications, the switcher’s frames stores and optional color corrector are ideal tools for color comparison and correction. The HD1010 is the only high definition switcher on the market that can handle all high-definition standards including 1080i/24p. It is available with the following options: DVE capability, color correctors, border generators and chroma keyers.
