Summary

Snell & Wilcox unveiled two new broadcast products at NAB 2001: the Mach1, a 1RU multi-format standards converter using proprietary M.Sc motion compensation technology derived from its Alchemist range, and FlexiCache, a resolution-independent multi-channel RAM/disk video recorder supporting uncompressed 4:2:2:4 HD for live production switchers.

Snell & Wilcox Mach1 Standards Converter Includes Motion Compensation in 1RU

“M.Sc” technology provides superior output quality at breakthrough price point

LAS VEGAS, Las Vegas Convention Center, NAB Booth L10428 - “Mach1” from Snell & Wilcox provides multi-format standards conversion using a new motion compensation technology - “M.Sc” - developed to provide superb conversion performance on video material containing motion.

M.Sc (“Motion Science”) technology was developed using the motion processing experience gained through Snell & Wilcox’ multiple award-winning Ph.C program. This is the motion compensation system used in the company’s benchmark Alchemist standards converter range, and in a variety of new applications including archive restoration, flicker and unsteadiness removal and noise reduction.

Mach1 offers high quality motion compensation in an affordable 1RU box, which makes on-site motion compensated standards conversion possible for mobile applications such as outside broadcasts, sports and ENG. Its price point and performance makes it the perfect upgrade from linear converters for broadcast, post, and corporate facilities.

Input and output formats are 10-bit serial digital and composite video, with dual AES digital audio inputs and outputs.

An ergonomically designed front panel allows rapid access to key functions, with an LCD display providing information on signal parameters.

Other important Mach1 features include: · Aspect ratio conversion · Linear conversion mode using 4 field, 4 line aperture · 2 x SDI inputs, 2 x SDI outputs · Composite / YC output of all world standards

Snell & Wilcox Introduces “FlexiCache” at NAB 2001

New integral video recorder designed for ease of use and flexible control

LAS VEGAS, Las Vegas Convention Center, NAB Booth L10428 - “FlexiCache” is a resolution-independent, multi-channel, RAM/disk video recorder for introducing stills, clips, stings and promos straight in to a production switcher, using the switcher’s own controls. This is particularly useful in live sports or news production applications.

FlexiCache capabilities are a significant improvement on the use of peripheral video equipment because it greatly simplifies the process of including short linkage video clips in program scheduling.

FlexiCache provides variable length recording of uncompressed 4:2:2:4 HD, plus audio. Reducing the resolution, the active area required, or using video and no key, can further extend this capacity.

With the clip length determined by the user and the timeline integrated into any Snell & Wilcox switcher, set-up and recall is simple - but the effects are powerful.

FlexiCache has up to four channels of I/O that can be user-configured to be either video or key in or out. There is also a provision for two AES stereo pairs for any audio included with the video clip.

Uploading clips to FlexiCache is easy. With device control of up to four VTRs and an Ethernet 10/100 BaseT network port, all the parameters are controlled from the switcher touchscreen and the internal SCSI hard drive provided. All this is a 2RU mainframe.

Additional FlexiCache features include:

· Control via a separate ethernet port · 20 user-configurable GPI/Os · Standard definition (composite) monitoring outputs
