PARK RIDGE, N.J.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 18, 1997--In response and support of a press release that the Consumer Electronics Manufacturers Association (CEMA) issued on Sept. 16, 1997 ("CEMA Calls on Broadcasters to Offer Consumers the Best TV Viewing Experience''), Sony Electronics Inc., a member of CEMA, would like to issue the following statement:

Sony Electronics is working toward the fall 1998 introduction of a lineup of consumer digital television receivers in the United States that will receive Advanced Television Systems Committee digital signal formats, including wide-screen HDTV.

In addition, to enable broadcasters, including cable operators, to provide digital HDTV broadcasts, Sony Electronics will offer appropriate broadcast-use equipment.
