Volume 1, Issue # 3

This Week in HD Sports, our programming guide, is picking up speed with an even wider variety of ‘Live’ HD events coming to you this week. Programs run the gamut from College Bicycle Racing and NASCAR Auto racing to modern Arena Football on a Saturday night.

Tom’s ‘Black 8 Ball’ predictions for HDSports this week

Most beautiful: give it to CBS, again teaming up with USA HD for four, count’em four, days of ‘Live’ PGA HD Golf (2 hrs Thurs+3 hrs/day x 3).

Most watched: the NBA Playoffs Friday night on ESPN-HD.

Most traditional: INHD (4) & ESPN-HD (1) bring us five HD MLB games. Most frightening: gotta be NHL Stanley Cup Playoffs on ESPN-HD. Most varied: HD Sports/Day: Saturday, with 6 possible ‘Live HD’ events. Most quick-action: HBO-HD brings us Saturday night Boxing and my favorite! Most Speed: NASCAR HD on HDNet Sunday.

Guys, please your lady with this one.  Hmmm, OK- well, ah yeah, for our women...

TWinHDSports readers: Get home early on Friday because we get HD WomenÂ’s Bicycle Racing: HDNet 5:00pm ET presents the first of two cool events: Indiana UniversityÂ’s Little 500 WomenÂ’s Race. The MenÂ’s big cycling race is Saturday.  These 2 are classic races and the largest annual intramural event for college racing cyclists. What great bicycle coverage in HDTV!

Of course, main stream sports programming in HD. MLB, MLS, NBA playoffs, Golf, NHL Stanley Cup... From last week: lasting impressions from this writer are the bone jarring & stunning, ‘Live’ ESPN-HD pictures & sound of the NHL Stanley Cup playoffs. Nothing like the wide screen 16:9 format & advanced high resolution of HDTV to really bring the NHL Hockey Rink to life. HD Soccer is also much improved (Ever had good seats at a Hockey match, then tried watching the action by looking through the bottom of your popcorn box? That’s your old SDTV4:3 format!) NOTE: Active TWiHDSports reader, Hi Al, wrote: MLS Soccer is on HDNet Every Sat night, for remainder of this MLS season. Thanks

The usual disclaimer: I believe all these programs are HDTV “Live” broadcasts.  Start times are all ET, best available at press time. TomÂ’s notes: I like Auto Racing so I listed Nascar, though not Live, itÂ’s a “Same Day, Tape Delay” at 5pm ET. Cheers. PVRs etc. Check your local listings.

HD Sports hit list for this week...

Corrections: Last week Page2 mentioned an 18-week NFL sched. Wrong: is a 17-week NFL sched. With one bye (off) week for each Team.
