thanks for prefixing this PR puff-piece with your Forward. Saved me from entering a long-winded tirade.

I agree with your assessment, and don't buy it either.

Look, I know the job these guys have is to try and slant things to make their side of the story look good. But this is stretching the truth beyond the breaking point. And when they pull these shenanigans, they destroy what little credibility they have. Their "proprietary research" was evidently obtained during stage 3 REM state, and is a total pipe dream.

It's interesting how they create an imaginary uptick at Jan11th (which hasn't happened yet), and then use that to project continuously increasing gains (for their contender). But hey, it's on a chart so it must be true, right? Very scientific stuff, so you can't argue with that. I can't wait to see the BR fanboys jump on this "knowledge", cite the 3x sales over HD-DVD, and predict the rapid demise of the Toshiba format. It's obviously doomed.

Also interesting is that if you look closely at how they've labeled the axes on their graph, these projections are apparently for 2010-2011?!

For the record, I'm neither a promoter nor owner of either format, and have no intention of jumping on either bandwagon for a year or two. I'd just like to see fair reporting. In the meantime, I'll just coast along on the 4,000 HD tapes in my collection for a while.
