DTV for old NTSC TVs

I just don't see even a small number of people going out and buying a HD receiver so they can get a digital version of a 4x3 picture OTA.


When I did a survey in Gwinnett by taking a DTV receiver to the customers home I had many interested except for price, the antenna and available content. It turns NTSC into at least DVD quality dramatically improving the sound especially with a surround sound system and most are aware of that difference and willing to pay some amount to get it. Just not $500.


But you can do it for $200. Walmart sells the USDTV tuner for $200
and your picture will look better than SD cable or satellite.

Actually, I finally received my LG 3410a HDTV DVR on Thursday. It is
able to receive the 11-2 channel where as my other HDTV tuner box, a
Zenith HDV420, cannot receive it (except it shows up with a black
screen). The additional WXIA-DT channel 11-2 comes up with label
"WXIA SD" and is 480i from the information displayed on LG 3410a.

To join the discussion about going DTV, I actually do not have a HDTV
monitor - just a big 32in 4:3 TV. I got the HDTV receivers for the
future, but also for the much, much improved picture quality over
analog NTSC OTA reception. The light year picture improvement has
been worth it for me, and I can also use these for the future.
