Since HDMI version 1.3 is starting to show up on more top end recievers these days I was wondering if anybody has one and if they have seen the difference between v1.3 and the old standard v1.1 Its supposed to allow for more A/V transmission thru the line at a faster rate thus a better picture and better sound.

HDMI 1.3 and Deep Color- Do I need that?

It's July now, and there's still no HDMI 1.3 TV'S Out there? I'm looking to buy a samsung in the fall and I want HDMI 1.3 and 1080P, but I can't tell from websites what has what, and if the version of HDMI is the latest or not. Anyone know where to find more information on this?
Making a big purchase like a TV, I want it to have all the goodies, so that down the road, I can have everything I need (given, that might be years, but I plan on having the TV atleast 5 years, if not more!)
Thanks in advance...

The only thing you get with HDMI 1.3 is deep color and as far as I know there are no deep color sources at this time and can't recall any recent news items about when they will arrive...
Is the different color codings a 1.3 display item? RGB vs. YcX.... (forgetting the letters!).
That really wasn't what I asked...I don't care about content, it's always last to arrive, and it's the cheapest part of an entire system. What I asked was if there's any information about what sets are HDMI 1.3???
Just because a TV or component has HDMI 1.3 doesn't mean it supports any or all of the features. I thought I saw SONY XBR claiming xvYCC Color Standard. I would call the manufacturer as the specs online are vague in this area.
Ask about:
1.Deep Color
2.Color Standard xvYCC
3.Lip Sync
4.True HD and DTS-HD Master Audio
Seems like every manufacturer has their own name for these features. HDTV mag has a series of articles on HDMI that is very helpful.

That's awesome, thanks. It's no wonder so many people are confused, I'd consider myself more informed than most, and it's still confusing.

Those links didn't say a word about that...
"HDMI 1.3 is creating all kinds of confusion. Here are some facts. HDMI 1.3 primarily specifies wider bandwidth for HDMI connections. In theory, this wider bandwidth enables a lot of new things, such as supporting the transmission of a wider color spectrum between a game console or high definition DVD player to a TV or the transmission of the digital audio stream for Dolby TrueHD or DTS-HD Master Audio. But, here's the kicker. The mere presence of an HDMI connection does not mean that feature is truly enabled on your TV or other device. For instance at least some TVs that have HDMI 1.3 do not have the color capabilities to support the wider color spectrum (which is not an issue right now since there is no software that supports it either.) There are receivers that have HDMI 1.3 inputs but do not decode Dolby TrueHD or DTS-HD meaning that transmitting a TrueHD audio stream to the receiver is useless. Now, it is possible that some of these receivers may be able to have their decoding software updated in the future to do this decoding but, there are no guarantees of that."
"Secondly, for the features of HDMI 1.3 to be enabled both the source input and the target output device have to support that feature."
"Any string of HDMI connected devices is reduced to the level of the lowest release device. Connecting that HDMI 1.1 or 1.2 DVD player to your HDMI 1.3 TVs limits that TV to whatever 1.2 enable."
"The bottom line is that just getting an HDMI 1.3 connector on a device does not guarantee that device will now or in the future support the new capabilities that HDMI 1.3 was enabled to deliver. Some will and some won't. HDMI 1.3 seems to be more about marketing hype right now than anything else. Caveat emptor."
"HDMI 1.3 is a lot like having a car with a 180 mph speedometer. It doesn't necessarily mean you can really go that fast."
