Dale & Shane and crew of 'HDTV Magazine'

I just wanted to say:

Thank You :D

For the email informing me of the special price for the Discovery HD-DVD "Planet Earth"

While it did not say which version [American or BBC] was being sold but for $29.95 shipped, I did not care!! {but from reivews I hope it is the BBC version}
THANKS!

While many may call this form of email 'spam'..
This one I call ' Death By Chocolate! '...

Many may say HD-DVD is dead.. but I am eating it up till there are no more discs!

I bought mine right before I sent the notice ... had to make sure they didn't sell out ;-).

As you know, we generally don't send promotional emails like that, but I thought this one was quite relevant, and well justified. That is why we have the "Special Offers" opt-in list after all, might as well put it to good use.

From reading the description on the Discovery Channel Store, I believe this is the "American" version, as it mentions Sigourney Weaver as the host ... I too had hoped for the BBC version.

Cheers,

- Shane

PS. For those interested, here is a link to the special we're referring to:

I followed the link from the e-mail and from this thread and every time add it to the cart it says $79.99. :?

Are you guys entering a promo code? or is the deal over?

I tried to buy a set, but it came up at $79.95--I guess the deal is over. I know that if you snooze, you loose--but that was too fast!

SPOKE TOO SOON--redid it and the discount came up on checkout!

Puppy: try again--all the way to checkout.

I think the opportunity to buy any and all HD DVDs at great prices is not gone - just assume they might be used.

My instinct is there will be a lot of new stock sell offs, then person to person "trading", and eventually (by the end of the year) the market will quiet down to just those who will hold the library for the long haul with the everpresent list in eBay. I think in terms of spotty pricing, declining. (okay, so it pretty obvious stuff - I didn't say I was a genius).

In fact, as soon as I watch my Planet set...I probably will sell it off at a resonable price. I don't have kids to show it to, not enough reason to hold on. Besides until my Laserdiscs are out of the way, I'm about out of storage!

Thanks Phill....I actually tried to do it a couple of times and it didn't work. This time, I hit the "remove all items" button after restarting my browser and it worked!

I sent in my order as soon I read the offer. I now have the Planet Earth HD-DVD's on the way, and the seven HD-DVD's that were offered with the Toshiba HD-DVD player (two in the box and five mail in offers). I will grab up any discounted HD-DVD's that interest me, understanding that when my Toshiba HD-DVD dies one day I will have a virtually worthless HD-DVD collection. I will then stick to the standard DVD's until some technology beyond Blu-Ray appears on the market. Hopefully there will not be another 'format war' when some new technology appears.

To keep the ball rolling on HD-DVD sales:

HDScape is offering a very large price reduction in all seven of their HD-DVD titles here:

http://www.hdscape.com/

The best deal seems to be a\the seven titles + a sampler disc "package" for $39.99 (they are charging $10 USPS shipping). And these are supposedly "Combo" discs so you can also play them on SD players (even on Blu-ray players in SD mode  )

Enjoy.

Thanks rf; I'm acquiring quite a library. I like the idea of this forum becoming a repository of great HD dvd disc deals.

For those of you who may have ordered the Planet Earth set we notified you about last week, Discovery Channel is now discounting their Sunrise Earth set as well. They are also offering free shipping on both, if that interests you. Again, I'm not sure how many they have in stock, so if you're an HD DVD owner, you might want to order one of these before they're gone.
