Yeah, my wife and I were on there exploring some early movies and I was amazed at some of the info over there...We are looking foward to "The Wizard Of Oz" on HD-DVD... :D

Oh really... That could be real sweet but bear in mind that the cinematography of the time was soft in nature. The HD should really open up the color pallete!

Yeah, the colors will be awesome...It looks pretty darn good upscaled but unfortunately, the latest copy is not in wide screen...

It should NOT be in widescreen. It is native 1.37

Note that the 1.78 version is cropped; that means they cut off the top and bottom of the original. You are actually seeing less of the original frame.

My version appears slightly stretched when upscaled...Should it be?

Depends on so many factors...

If it was mastered for 1.78/1.85 and they mastered the 1.37 full frame then it would appear as widescreen with everybody looking short and fat. Need to adjust your aspect ratio for 4:3.

If it was mastered for 1.78/1.85 and they mastered the 1.37 as 4:3 letter box then it would appear as widescreen with black bars on the sides. Shouldn't have to adjust anything.

According to this page yours should be 4:3 but that does not indicate how.

Also note means the top and bottom were slightly cut off to meet 1.33

Looks like the HD version never happened...

2009 will mark the 50th Anniversary of many classic films and you can bet both Oz and GWTW will be re-issued by Warners on
Blu-Ray. TNT has already shown both films in hd, in the original aspect ratio. Oz looked fantastic. For fans of classic films, Blu-Ray in
the UK has released a number of 1940's British films which play domestically, such as "Great Expectations". "Cabaret" Blu-Ray comes out in the UK later this month; hopefully, it will be US compatible, or a domestic version will surface.
